This sensory invitation to explore was a favorite for both our preschooler and toddler. We created colorful frozen baking soda dinosaurs to put in vinegar for fizzing dinosaur sensory play!

We used a dinosaur mold. Our kids loved being involved in the process of measuring and mixing the ingredients and freezing the dinosaurs.
After a few hours in the freezer, the dinosaurs were frozen enough to pop right our of the mold. We placed them in a bin of vinegar outside.

The foaming, fizzing reaction was mesmerizing! The dinosaurs were cold but not so icy that they weren't still fun to touch and swirl around in the liquid.
During our play, our toddler named the colors of the dinosaurs. Our preschooler identified the dinosaurs by name!
We included eye droppers for fine motor practice. They both enjoyed the challenge of squirting the vinegar on the dinosaurs to watch them disappear as they melted while they fizzed.
I can never get enough of watching my kids play cooperatively together. Whether you have a classroom of preschool students, a homeschool co-op, or just one child to entertain this activity is perfectly engaging.
Once the fizzing stopped from a rapid foam to a slow and evenly dispersed bubbling our preschooler liked adding more vinegar herself! Pouring our big jug of vinegar is also great for her fine motor skills!
Even after the dinosaurs were extinct, the kids loved the aftermath sensory play. They splashed in the vinegar bin, scooped in leftover baking soda, and stirred their potion!
Bonus writing practice took place in the remaining melted baking soda mixture on the place!
