Our Preschool Ocean and Beach Theme

By Devany LeDrew | Labels:

The first month of our co-op home school preschool was planned with an ocean and beach theme. We started at the beginning of June when both of our families were returning from our beach vacations!

The Logistics:

Megan and I met and worked together at a learning center before we had families of our own.
She now has Everest, age four and Irelyn, age two.  E is three.
They come to our house on Tuesdays.  We go to their house on Thursdays.  Preschool is from 9:30 to 1.  Lunch is provided by the hosting family, but snack (usually themed and often prepped/cooked by the kids) is brought by the guests.  Pinterest provides plenty of ideas for lessons and activities.  We organize our lesson plans on a shared spreadsheet via Google Drive.  We are introducing the kids to Handwriting Without Tears and Starfall.

Books We Read:

Art & Crafts:

Crabby hand print art
(We added a lobster to E's with baby D's foot print!  Their first collaborative art work!)

Fist print seahorses with fluffy yarn sea weed

Collaborative ocean animal mural

Math Concepts:

Patterns with colored shells found in our sensory bin

Number matching and ordering octopus craft

Sensory Play:

Water beads with ocean animals

Field Trip:
We visited That Fish Place to check out some salt water animals up close.

Check back soon for our July theme: Animal life cycles!
