Building Snowflakes on the Light Table

After taking E to see Frozen as a reward for getting shots, we were inspired to make snowflakes on the light table! I love this pretty math and nature lesson that includes symmetry and geometry.

We watched this Discovery TV video on snowflakes for inspiration:

Then we used our light table pattern blocks to create our own icy crystals! I love snuggling up to the light table when it's winter to brighten up the dark and dreary days!

It was the perfect quiet time activity to do with E.  One of us would start a snowflake and the other would build from there. We discussed shapes and symmetry as we worked.

Have you seen Frozen?  Has it inspired any snow or ice projects at your house? We've gathered a whole collection of Snowflake Crafts and Activities for Kids
