Rain Walk with Kids - From E to D Version 2.0 Series

In the summer of 2011 I took 1 1/2 year old toddler E on a rain walk to explore water on a warm day. Now that she is 4 1/2 and our youngest is 1 1/2 it was time to revisit this nature provided sensory experience!

It's hard to believe we've been blogging for three years. One of the more wonderful things that has come out of that time is our series called From E to D Version 2.0 where we will look back at activities our oldest did when she was the age our youngest is now. We love to set up the same invitations for him.

It's also interesting to see how her reaction to the same activities has changed in three years. As you can see here she chose to dress herself in all of her rain gear for this walk. She does not like to get her regular clothing wet anymore!

Toddler D immediately investigated the mud puddles. He was jumping and splashing with such enthusiasm. Remember how toddler E cautiously poked at water on her rain walk?

This looks like wet pavement but it was slick mud. Walking in this terrain required a bit more gross motor work than usual. D loved checking out his footprints.

D was the leader of this rain walk with E tagging along to see what he would try for her to mimic. The tables were turned from their traditional roles!

E did love checking out how the rain made our natural environment different. We saw water droplets collecting on leaves.

My favorite discovery (besides watching the kids in the puddles) was this spider web covered in rain! E expressed her sympathy for that spider's home but I assured her that he would build a new one when the rain stopped.
