Five Little Pumpkins on the Light Table

Five Little Pumpkins is a favorite Halloween poem to retell in our house! We've already shared our Fine Motor Five Little Pumpkins so for this activity we used recycled materials to make dry erase jack-o-lanterns for the light table.

Our preschooler E loved redecorating the faces on our recycled jack-o-lanterns over and over! Using a dry erase marker kids can create jack-o-lanterns then wipe the surface clean to draw and design all over again.

We glued orange cellophane sheets inside of clear recycled lids. The stems are construction paper scraps. These reusable jack-o-lanterns would be fun off of the light table, too. They'd make a great quiet time activity or busy bag!

We discussed shapes and parts of the face while E drew. Once our Five Little Pumpkins were created we needed to build them a fence. E first sorted the cut pieces of construction paper by length.

She built the fence at the bottom of our ALEX Toys Prism Light Center. It was ready for our pumpkins now! They are going to look great sitting on their gate!

Reciting the poem, E placed the jack-o-lanterns on the fence in order while reviewing ordinal words: first, second, third, fourth, and fifth! They fit perfectly and the light table made them glow.

Until "'Ohhhhhh,' went the wind and OUT went the lights and the Five Little Pumpkins rolled out of sight!" Apparently our fence went with it! That was a strong wind. As you can tell, this was E's favorite part to act out of course!
