Jack-O-Lantern Geoboard

We used our homemade geoboard as a festive fine motor way to create jack-o-lantern pumpkin faces while reviewing math concepts!

Begin by reading the full directions on how to create your own pegboard geoboard from Crayon Box Chronicles. The great part is that even making the geoboard is fine motor work for kids! Our toddler loved putting the screws in while our preschooler tried to tighten the bolts.

Once we made the geoboard I wrapped orange yarn around the pegs to create a pumpkin shape. We taped on a paper stem.

I gave our preschooler E yellow stretchy fabric loops to decorate a face on her jack-o-lantern geoboard. She had to pinch and stretch the loops over the pegs to create the shapes for the facial features.

Geoboards are a wonderful math tool for learning about shapes, symmetry, and measurement. We discussed how to make evenly spaced faces and experimented with how to create larger and smaller forms.

E got really creative with her artwork making a jack-o-lantern cat with whiskers and even this silly face with glasses and a brain!

This is the perfect Halloween quiet time activity or classroom center for festive math fine motor creativity! We took several turns making faces on our pumpkins and then E asked Mr. SPS to play again when he got home.
