Our house smelled amazing as we created and play with our Peppermint Scented Baking Soda Sensory Dough!

For our final recipe in the 12 Months of Sensory Dough series we were challenged to create a scented salt dough. I cheated a tiny bit because I wanted our dough to be white instead of the off white result that we got with our salt dough ornaments.
We used My Pinterventures' Baking Soda Dough Recipe except I added a few drops of peppermint extract when the dough was cooking. You can see from the photo series above how the dough solidifies as it cooks which really intensified the peppermint scent!
Once cooked and cooled, I added red gel food coloring to half of the dough. I blended it in with a potato masher first and then my hands. Our preschooler E created a candy cane effect by rolling out two pieces of dough then twisting them together. This is a wonderful fine motor activity!
We love to work literacy into our sensory play so E created some letter shapes out of the candy cane play dough.
We also enjoyed simply creating designs from the refreshing peppermint scented baking soda dough!
