Gold Coin Treasure Hunt

We packed literacy into a fun gold coin treasure hunt for St. Patrick's Day! Our kids found lucky letter coins to spell their names.

We made our lucky letter gold coins by putting round yellow labels on bottle caps. We love to recycle as we create our learning and play materials!

I hid the gold coins around the house. Each child got a little black pot to collect the letter coins as we went on our treasure hunt. Our toddler D wasn't quite understanding at first as he held his little pot up and said, "Trick or treat!" Wrong holiday, buddy! We must need to practice before egg hunts begin!

Since our toddler and preschooler were both participating I allowed them to grab any letters as they found them. You can make this activity more challenging for older or academically advanced children you could ask them to only gather the letters in their own names.

When we found all the letters the kids worked on spelling their names. You can put the letters in order if you hide the whole alphabet. You can spell sight words or match upper and lowercase letters. Our kids are enjoying hiding the lucky letter gold coins for each other over and over again!
