Stamping shapes into kinetic sand is a great opportunity to work on shape identification, count the sides and corners, and compare and contrast the shapes. Our kids loved this hands on fine motor math activity.

Please tell me we're not the only ones with missing puzzle pieces! It drives our son a bit crazy that we can't currently find all of the pieces to our Melissa & Doug shape puzzle so today we used the puzzle pieces as stampers in kinetic sand instead of playing with the puzzle the traditional way.
If you've never played with kinetic sand, it has the most appealing properties! It sticks to itself which means it's a very fun sensory experience and it molds well. You can even stamp into it. I set up this invitation to explore by creating a matching activity with the shape puzzle pieces and their imprints.
Our kids couldn't resist the stamping activity! It was the perfect fine motor work out. Our daughter even put a square and a triangle together to make a house then used her fingers to make a door and windows.
Like every other activity we do, it didn't take long for our son to ask if he could add his other favorite toys including his hippo!
