Thanksgiving Sensory Bin

Who's hungry? Our kids would love to serve you from their Thanksgiving Sensory Bin! This invitation to explore provided lots of tactile input as well as opportunities for pretend play!

Thanksgiving is all about food and family and service. We've filled our Thanksgiving Sensory Bin with a variety of interesting textures for small hands to explore! (For your convenience, we have all the links to the items we used at the end of this post.)

We filled our bin with (free to us) crinkle cut brown paper that we've kept from gift packages. We added in play utensils, plates, and Thanksgiving Day menu items!

The textures are very stimulating and interesting from the bumpy corn on the cob to the soft plush pull apart turkey. None of the little hands in our home could resist this bin! We had lots of opportunity to discuss adjectives as we played, too: smooth, soft, bumpy, crunchy, and wrinkly.

Of course, our preschooler is ready for imaginative dramatic play with the food. She takes our orders and prepares our plates. These salt and pepper shakers are filled with white and black beads that rattle realistically when you season the food which the baby loves, too!

A great fine motor exercise is the cause and effect our toddler enjoys as he pulls the crinkly paper straight then allows it to spring back into place! BOING!

I am thankful to be able to watch them play together side by side. I love creating invitations to explore that include both our preschooler and toddler!
