Grief Stops You In Your Tracks

By Devany | Labels:

A homemade valentine sat on our counter the other day.  It looks perfectly innocent right?  Harmless.
Except that it stopped me in my tracks.  It sent my heart to my stomach.  Across the room, for just a moment my mind turned it into this:

The frilly pattern and the layering of the colors.  The hole she has left in our lives and my soul was so big at that moment that it took all the air out of the room with it.

Triggers can set off your grief in the most unexpected ways.

  3. I just came across your blog today. My 23 year old son died April 7th, nearly 15 years after our 16 year old. I thought I had this grief thing down, having done it for 15 years and having my dad die in between. But this post and the pic you have about her coming from the core of your being have really hit home for me. I'm so sad that you lost Violet, but so happy you have two more children.
